Tortuga, Madinat Jumeirah

For our fifth (yes fifth!) wedding anniversary we decided to try Tortuga at Madinat Jumeirah for a Mexican feast.

We both love Mexican food so I have no idea why we waited so long to try this relatively new restaurant – if you like Mexican food you need to go immediately.

By far the best guacamole I have ever had!

Faced with a large menu and seemingly endless options (which is never a good thing for me) we decided to go for Chef Carlos Hannon’s Tour Menu! ‘Leave it in our hands, we will take care of you’ promises the menu – and they didn’t disappoint. For a set price you get five dishes brought to the table which gives you a taste of the whole menu. You can tell them anything you really don’t like e.g. raw fish etc… but our dishes were amazing.

They also have a great selection of both cocktails and mocktails to wash it all down with.

Here are the dishes the kitchen chose for us:

  • Sopes – griddled corn bread, slow braised beef, beans and sour cream
  • Cancun tacos – battered shrimp, pickled red onions, chipotle chili mayo
  • Arrachera – grilled marinated flank steak, roasted ancho chili sauce
  • Churros – crunchy choux pastry with cinnamon sugar and Mexican chocolate sauce

We also had a Mexican sweetcorn dessert that was delicious but isn’t on the menu so I have no idea what it’s called but I’m sure it can be requested. And of course we added the homemade guacamole and corn chips to start!

We were far too busy chatting away and munching all the food to take pictures but I definitely want to go back so when we do I’ll make sure to take lots of pictures to share! In the meantime these are ‘borrowed’ from TripAdvisor.
