It’s rare that I would choose to stay at the same place twice. Travel is about exploring and holiday time is precious (and just never long enough) so I normally like to try new places.
Enter Claverton House in Sussex, UK. One of my favourite places that we’ve ever stayed – twice.
It’s not a hotel, it’s not a B&B, it’s a country house – the best of both worlds. We first stayed when we stumbled upon the website looking for a wedding hotel and fell in love with it. Almost four years to the date, we went back a couple of summers ago and stayed again – in the same room!
It’s a little bit off the beaten track, nowhere near a big city but I cannot recommend it enough. It’s a family-run Edwardian house, built in 1910 for the Lane family as their country retreat the bell system in the kitchen still has their names painted in gold under each room.
The house set in a beautiful landscaped garden (complete with Koi pond) and the family literally make you feel like you’re in your own (giant, gorgeous) house. As a non-egg-eater breakfast at hotels is usually pretty standard for me but the breakfast there is one of the best i’ve ever had. Freshly baked bread and pastries, local produce such as lemon curd and jams (they actually list all their local suppliers here) and the most delicious muesli.
If you’re looking for a country retreat this place is perfect. It only has a few rooms and each one is unique so book in advance if you spot one on the website that you particularly like! We stayed in the sleigh bed room on both our visits.
