Burning Man Festival

Not to sound ignorant but until recently I didn’t really know what The Burning Man Festival was! And I don’t even now really…

Burning Man is an annual event and has become something of a culture over in the states. The event takes place in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert for a week of attendees seemingly dedicating themselves to art, self-expression and freedom…nothing wrong there, if a little bit hippie!

According to the website:

“We believe that the experience of Burning Man can produce positive spiritual change in the world. Burning Man is radically inclusive, and its meaning is potentially accessible to anyone. The touchstone of value in our culture will always be immediacy: experience before theory, moral relationships before politics, survival before services, roles before jobs, embodied ritual before symbolism, work before vested interest, participant support before sponsorship.”

From what I gather it’s spiritual rather than religious in any way. But I’m intrigued so am off to research some more and if anyone knows anything about it – please share!

Now to come full circle, these are the images I found that immediately caught my attention!

Meant to be an amazing experience – there is no money. You pack up your car with everything you need for the duration. If you want to buy anything you trade. Everyone has a bike and cycles around this built up town in the desert and one the last night they light the huge figure of a man! Exciting
