This Easter weekend started off with a real treat for me – afternoon tea and a day of shopping with my sister.
Thanks to my obsessive reading of Emerald Street e-newsletters, I came across an offer for 2-for-1 afternoon teas around London.
I opted for the afternoon rock tea at the W Hotel London and as an added bonus, our visit coincided with a special tea menu designed in conjunction with foodie Gizzie Erskine which was only available for a couple of weeks.
If you want to try out the typically British hotel afternoon tea but don’t want a stuffy, formal hotel then the W Hotel is perfect. Luxury is such an overused word and the truth is it means very different things to different people. To me, it means a special treat without feeling uncomfortable – which is exactly what the informal yet extravagant W Hotel offers.
The afternoon tea is normally priced at £25 per person but cost us just £25 for tea people with the special offer. It’s definitely generous, as well as unlimited tea (choose from a huuuuge selection) and delicious coffees, you get four finger sandwiches, a fruit scone with jam and clotted cream and an array of mini cakes and tarts – each!
Between the rose financier and the cherry bomb (and everything in between) it’s quite hard to choose a favourite from the huge sweet spread but I think I’d go for the Devil’s food cake with peanut butter mousse and peanut brittle.
Yum yum! Good job we hit the shops afterwards, although probably hitting the gym would have been even more beneficial!
By the time we left at just after 5pm, the W Lounge Bar was filling up for the evening and it’s a great spot for a couple of drinks before heading into Soho if you’re looking for somewhere different to go out.
The two-for-one offer is still available on Emerald Street so if your mouth is now watering go and book one for yourself!
