Belgium in the summer

A bit of a photo diary from a spring/summer trip to Belgium a couple of years ago.

If you’re thinking of a trip to Europe and not sure where to go, I’d highly recommend Belgium as an alternative to France or the Netherlands. If you like nature, food and street side cafes then you’ll love it!

A few favourite places (and you’ll note Brussels is NOT on there!!)

  • Leuven: a university ‘city’ by Belgian standards it feels more like a big town with an impressive cathedral at its centre. It’s laid back with plenty of restaurants for a bite to eat and a good shopping option too
  • Antwerp: if you like art this edgy city will be right up your street – almost Belgium’s answer to Brighton!
  • Ghent: this port city is perfect for anyone looking for a cultural break and has a few landmarks worth visiting including its very own castle! It’s beautiful and picturesque so definitely pack a camera
  • Bruges: known as a fairy tale medieval town, it’s THE perfect place in Belgium for a quiet weekend of cobbled streets; long, lazy lunches and walks along the canal

In between all of these major hubs though, there is so much greenery from fields and big open parks to woodland that you can walk through. And the nicest bit of all? Even on a weekend when the sun is out, nowhere is ever too crowded!
